How to Spend Daily Time with the Lord
While there are many ways to spend time with God, here is a simple outline for daily coming into His presence. As you become more regular and more intimate with Him, He will fill in the details of your time and lead you.
I. Praise
Reading the Psalms is one way to praise Him and warm your heart to His. You may want to sing a hymn or song of praise to Him as well. Sometimes it is helpful to use a hymnal and meditate on songs of praise.
II. Confess
Often as we renew our vision of God we see ourselves in the light of His holy standard. As the Holy Spirit speaks regarding our own sin, confess those sins, thanking Jesus for His forgiveness and turning from them. Make a list if it helps in naming them specifically.
III. Read
Select a book of the Bible through which you can read chapter by chapter. Generally speaking, take a chapter a day. As you read, ask the Holy Spirit to teach you, to make application in your life. Many people like to keep a small notebook in which they journal those things that the Lord teaches.
IV. Pray
Make a list of things for which you are convinced the Lord wants you to pray. Ask Him to show you how to pray for them. Some people have a list for which they may daily pray and a list for which they may pray weekly. Again, it is important that you obey the Lord - not just try to imitate someone else. As He leads, keep a written record of requests and answers.
V. Thank
Close by thanking the Lord for the time, for speaking to you, for listening to you.
