How to Spend a Day with the Lord

I. Select a place.

Because your objective is uninterrupted, focused time with Him, choose a place with as few distractions as possible. This might mean a library, a park, a room in your church, or just remaining at home. The point is to avoid things that compete for your mental attention.

You will also want to consider places that are convenient to restroom, water and food (if you are not fasting).

II. Make a plan.

Although the Lord should always have the freedom to override your plan, prayerfully consider how you are to spend your day beforehand. This will eliminate wasting time during this special day. Think and pray about Scripture passages you want to read. Make a list of things and people for which you want to pray. Consider if there are any Christian books which you might want to read.

Your day should include time to:
1) listen to the Lord and wait on Him in silence
2) praise Him in word and song
3) confess any sin and ask Him to assess your life.
4) ask Him concerning any questions, needs, persons, or ministry
5) thank Him for what He has done, is doing and will do.

III. Suggested items to take

1) Bible
2) Prayer diary/list
3) Paper and pen
4) Hymnal
5) Christian music
6) Calendar
7) Books

You may not need all of these, but think through those items that might enhance your time with the Lord.
